Frequently Asked Questions

  • Loose clothing is best. It allows for easy access to the body without the need of complete removal of clothing, although sometimes trousers or tops will need to be removed.

  • As acupuncture needles are very fine, you are unlikely to feel them being inserted. Once in place, common sensations include a dull aching feeling, warmth, and tingling up or down the limb, although you may feel nothing at all.

  • This varies between each patient. After your first consultation, I will be able to give you an idea of how many sessions you will need.

For most conditions, weekly or bi-weekly sessions are recommended for a period of 3-6 sessions (with the exception of gynae and fertility treatments where a minimum of 3 months is advisable).

However, no one person is the same so progress will be continually reviewed and if no improvements to your condition have been made within 3 sessions, we will discuss together if continuing is worthwhile.

Acupuncture is cumulative, meaning regular, frequent sessions are recommended in the initial phase of treatment to get the best results. In some cases, after a condition has improved, ‘maintenance’ treatments are recommended which can be monthly, bi-monthly or seasonal.

  • Absolutely! And in fact acupuncture is fantastic for relieving pregnancy symptoms from pelvic girdle pain to nausea and fatigue. I have completed extra training for acupuncture during pregnancy and so you will be in safe hands.

Please ensure that I am aware that you are pregnant, or might be pregnant, to ensure you get the best outcome for your session.

  • Every Health Insurer is different but most will cover acupuncture if your GP refers you. As a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) my treatments are covered by most health insurance providers. Click here for further details.
